Reporter: Deneige Broom Email Address: deneige.broom@wctv.tv Later this month, Roy Kirkland and Doug Sebastian, will receive their award at the New York International Film Festival for best documentary for "A Cross Burning in Willacoochee." The film chronicles their personal tale of being victims of a hate crime back in the 90's in Willacoochee, Georgia. A cross was burned on their front lawn and to date, no one has been arrested for the incident. "The thing you go through as a film maker is you never know how the public is going to receive it," said filmmaker Roy Kirkland. "And this being something that personally touched our lives, was a little bit more difficult than what I anticipated." "We wanted to make people be aware that these things do happen and to not treat the victims as the actual perpetrator," said Doug Sebastian who also helped produce the film. Three of their films, "A Cross Burning in Willacoochee", "KIDS'robics" and "There You Are" are now being distributed by Victory Multimedia around the country. They are preparing to embark on producing another flick. |
